sagg chandelier
The simple charge from our client was to create a chandelier for this lovely new home overlooking the ocean (Hamptons) that felt as if it were a specimen just pucked from the ocean. We took that charge and explored hundreds of options in two primary materials – glass and resin. We made many prototypes and samples as we ranged in on a design solution for the piece. In the end we went with a cast resin piece with custom hand worked pigments (during the very limited curing window), and a custom patern/topography that is digitally carved into the resin ingot during the mid process. This pattern is then treated with a high gloss silver on the topside so as to create an ethereal set of reflections in the final piece. The dimensions of the piece are 7′-6″x 1′-2″ x 9″. it weighs about 160 pounds and is illuminated with three mr-16 halogen light sources.
